1. Connect the camera to your computer using the provided USB cable

   

2. Import photos to your computer
   • Windows: Follow the instructions on the screen display. (Select [Open device to view files].)
   • Mac: Use the “Photos” app or Image Capture.
3. Remove the USB cable after the transfer is completed

2. Select [File] → [Firmware Update] in the menu
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to connect the camera to your computer using the provided USB cable

5. Check Current Version and Available Version and select [To next]
   • The firmware file transfer starts.
6. When “Transfer Done” is displayed, follow the instructions on the screen to update the firmware on the device

1. Start the computer application
2. Select [File] → [Open] in the menu
3. Select a video to view
   • The selected video starts playing.
   • You can also open files by dragging and dropping them to the computer application window.

   If the file you selected has not been converted (the file name is “R***.MP4”)

   A video conversion dialog box is displayed. Select or enter the desired output directory (folder to which to save the converted video) and click [Start].

   • Multiple files can be converted at the same time by dragging and dropping files that have not been converted.
   • Conversion may take some time depending on conditions such as the length of the video.
   • The data file name after conversion is “R***_er.MP4”. Videos do not need to be converted again the next time they are viewed. At this time, the video size is either 1920 x 960 or 1280 x 640.
   • Meta data that is compatible with the 360 degree video format is added to the converted data. Videos that have meta data added can be shared and viewed as spherical images on YouTube.
   • The playback/display screen can be operated as follows:

     Operations with mouse:

     Drag to scroll within a video.

     Zoom in or out using the mouse wheel.

     Operations with keyboard:

     Zoom in by pressing PgUp.

     Zoom out by pressing PgDn.

     Scroll by pressing ←↑↓→.

   • A full screen display can be launched by selecting [Display] → [Full Screen]. Press Esc to close the full screen display.

Closing the Video

Select [File] → [Close] in the menu.

Exporting Slant Corrected Still Images

Select [File] → [Write with top/bottom correction] → [JPEG data with XMP].

Still images whose slant has been corrected are exported.

Closing the Still Image

Select [File] → [Close] in the menu.

3. Enter your account name and password in the login screen and select [Login]
   • When you are logged in successfully, the theta360.com menu item changes from “Login” to “Logout”.
4. Select [theta360.com] → [Post (SNS Share)] in the menu
5. Move the slider to adjust the area to be shared and select [Next].
   • Files up to 5MB can be shared. Videos may be compressed if their file size is large.
6. Enter a comment and select [Post]

1. Tap in the app start screen
   • The [Settings] screen is displayed.

Settings

The following settings are displayed in the [Settings] screen.

Connection:

Check the connection between the camera and the smartphone.

Changing the Wi-Fi password:

You can check the Wi-Fi connection status and change the password. Follow the procedure below to change the password.

1. Enter a new password (8 or more characters) and tap [Change Password] at the bottom of the screen.

 * Single-byte English letters, numbers and symbols can be used (no spaces).

2. When the password has been changed successfully, press the wireless button of the camera to turn the wireless function off and on again.

 * The password is not changed until the wireless function is turned off.

3. Delete the camera registration information from before the password change in the Wi-Fi settings of your smartphone.

4. Enter the new password in the Wi-Fi settings of your smartphone and connect to the camera.

Caution

• Can only be set when the camera is connected.

Note

• Please note that the previous password can no longer be used.
• If you have forgotten the password, press and hold the wireless button to restore the default password. The power turns off automatically when the password is reset successfully.

Transfer method:

Select whether to keep the still images/videos on the camera when transferring them from the camera to the smartphone. Select [Copy] to retain the still image/video in the internal memory after transfer or select [Move] to delete the still image/video from the internal memory after transfer.

Sleep Mode*:

Set the length of time before the camera enters the sleep mode (3 minutes/5 minutes/7 minutes/OFF).
If no operations are performed for a further 5 minutes after the camera enters the sleep mode, the power turns off.

Camera shutter volume*:

Set the volume of the shutter sound (High/Medium/Low/OFF).

Camera version*:

Check the firmware version of the camera.

App version:

Check the version of the app.

Facebook:

Set a Facebook account.

Twitter:

Set a Twitter account.

Tumblr:

Set a Tumblr account.

*Settings can only be checked and changed when the camera is connected to the smartphone.

   • To change the video shooting conditions, press the shooting mode button to switch to the video capture mode.

5. Tap the shooting mode button in the lower right-hand corner of the screen to change the exposure mode

   Auto:

   ISO sensitivity, shutter speed and white balance are adjusted automatically according to the shooting environment. You can also select the image correction method from noise reduction, DR correction and HDR rendering. The camera returns to this mode each time the power is turned on.

   ISO priority:

   Set the ISO sensitivity and white balance.

   Shutter priority:

   Set the shutter speed and white balance.

   Manual:

   Set the ISO sensitivity, shutter speed and white balance.

6. Select each setting
   • Move your finger over each setting value to select your desired settings.
   • The section displayed in white is the current setting.
   • Below are the setting ranges and options that can be selected for each setting.

     ISO sensitivity:

     100 – 1600

     Shutter speed:

     1/8 – 1/8000 (shutter priority mode), 60 – 1/8000 (manual mode)

     White balance:

     Auto – Adjusted automatically.

     Outdoor – Adjusted for shooting outdoors (when sunny).

     Shade – Adjusted for shooting in the shade.

     Cloudy – Adjusted for shooting when cloudy.

     Incandescent light 1 – Adjusted for shooting in incandescent light.

     Incandescent light 2 – Adjusted for shooting in incandescent light.
     (More red remains than when using [Incandescent light 1].)

     Daylight color fluorescent light – Adjusted for shooting in daylight color fluorescent light.

     Natural white fluorescent light – Adjusted for shooting in natural white fluorescent light.

     White fluorescent light – Adjusted for shooting in white fluorescent light.

     Light bulb color fluorescent light – Adjusted for shooting in lightbulb color fluorescent light.

   • Tap EV, and use the displayed slider to correct the exposure. Move it to the right to brighten the photo or to the left to darken the photo.

Changing the Still Image Capture Mode Settings

Tap at the top right of the screen when shooting still images to change various settings for the still image capture mode.

Display mode:

You can set the display method for live view.
[OFF]: Live view is not displayed.
[Panorama]: Live view is displayed as a panorama at the top of the screen.
[Full Screen]: Live view is displayed on the full screen.

Interval shooting:

You can set "Interval shooting" which shoots at a fixed interval. Touch the button next to [Interval shooting] to turn this setting on and configure settings such as the shooting interval.

   • The serial number printed on the base of the camera is the same as the SSID and password.
     The SSID is "THETA" plus the serial number in the (B) section plus .OSC (in this case "THETAYJ00001017.OSC"). The password is the numbers in the (A) section (in this case "00001017").
   • You can change the password from your smartphone.
   • The password is initialized by pressing and holding the wireless button while the power is on.The power turns off automatically at this time.
   • When the wireless connection is complete, the wireless lamp lights white.

Wireless Lamp

The status of the wireless lamp shows the Wi-Fi status of the camera.

Lit in white:

Wi-FI function on (connected to Wi-Fi network)

Flashing in white:

Wi-FI function on (not connected to Wi-Fi network)

Unlit:

Wi-Fi function off

Date and Time Settings

The date and time of the camera are synchronized with the smartphone when connected.

1. Access the app download service that is compatible with your smartphone
   • There are some differences between functions provided by the RICOH THETA for iPhone and RICOH THETA for Android.

   • An icon () is displayed on the home screen when the download is done.

Power Lamp

When the power is on, the status of the power lamp shows the battery capacity.

Lit:

The battery capacity is low.

Unlit:

The battery has run out.

7. Shooting Mode Lamp

   The lamp that corresponds to the selected shooting mode lights. When a lamp is flashing, shooting is not possible because internal processing is in progress. The and lamps flash during the firmware update.

8. Power lamp

   Displays the power status.

9. Power button

   Turns the power on/off.

10. Wireless button

    Turns the wireless function on/off.

11. Shooting Mode Button

    Switches between the still image capture mode and video capture mode.

12. USB terminal

    Connect to your computer using the provided USB cable.

    Caution

    • It may take time for the battery to charge or the battery may not charge at all when a USB cable other than the provided USB cable is used.

   • The display can be toggled between [Not transferred], [Transferred] and [All].
7. Tap the still image/video to view
   • The selected still image/video is displayed in the viewer.

Viewer

Display a desired area of a spherical image taken with the camera, and zoom in or out to check details in the photo.

• Zooming in or out: Pinch out, pinch in

  

• Changing the displayed area: Swipe or flick

  

Tap the screen when a still image/video is displayed in the viewer to display the buttons and perform various operations.

• If [Cam images] is selected

2. Tap the x in the upper left-hand corner of the screen
   • A screen will appear displaying a timeline of transferred device images.

4. Tap the still image you wish to edit
   • The selected still image is displayed in the viewer.
5. Tap the image to display the navigation bar, and then tap [Blur]
   • The editing screen is displayed.
6. Trace the area to be blurred with your fingers
   • The traced area is blurred.
   • The displayed area can be moved by flicking or swiping the zoom out display section of the spherical image.

   To make the blurred area smaller (remove some of the blurring)

   Tap [Cancel]. When the blurred area turns green, trace the area to remove the blurring from with your finger.

7. Tap [Save new]
   • The edited version is saved as a new still image.

   * Select [Share this view] to change the area initially displayed as a thumbnail when a still image is uploaded to theta360.com and the area that is first displayed when an image is viewed.

   • A confirmation screen is displayed. Tap [Delete] to start deleting.

   • The transfer starts and the progress is displayed on the screen. When transferring videos, the video size is either 1920 x 960 or 1280 x 640 because the video is converted when saved.
   • To cancel the transfer, tap x and tap [Cancel transfer].

   • Tap the numbers at the top of the screen to change the video size. The frame rate is 30fps for 1920 x 1080 images, and 15fps for 1280 x 720 images.

Care

• Please note that if fingerprints, dirt, etc. get onto the lens, picture quality will suffer.
• When dust or dirt does get on the lens, do not touch it directly with your fingers, and either use a blower (available in stores) to blow it off, or a soft cloth to gently dust it off.
• Wipe the lens particularly carefully after use at the beach or around chemicals.
• In the unlikely event that your camera fails to work properly, please consult the nearest service center.
• Never disassemble the camera by yourself, as this is dangerous.
• Do not get volatile substances, such as thinner, benzene, or pesticides on your camera. This may cause a change in quality, paint to peel, etc.
• If the camera exterior becomes dirty, dry wipe the exterior using a soft cloth such as a spectacles cloth, or wet wipe using a well-wrung out cloth. Do not use solvents, as doing so may cause the external surface of the product to corrode.

• In an environment where the temperature changes suddenly, condensation may occur in the camera, resulting in troubles such as fogging of the glass surface or malfunctions of the camera. If this occurs, place the camera in a bag to slow the temperature change as much as possible. Take it out of the bag after the temperature difference from the atmosphere has decreased to a fairly small amount. If condensation occurs, remove the battery and memory card, and wait until the moisture has dried before using the camera.
• Do not get the camera wet. Do not operate the camera with wet hands. This can result in malfunction or an electrical shock.
• When taking photos of an important event (such as a wedding or overseas trip), take a test photo beforehand to check that the camera is working properly.
• The camera may become hot when shooting for a long period of time. In this case, the camera may stop operating to prevent damage from high temperatures.
